Yacht & Boat Detailing

Oxidation removal, polish, and premium wax, finished with a full detail, for yachts and boats in San Diego and Orange County.

The Process

The HarborSide Detailing Process

1. Pre-Wash Inspection

Every job begins with a full inspection of your boat. We identify problem areas like oxidation hot spots, waterlines, and stained surfaces, then document the starting condition with photos so the before and after speaks for itself.

2. Hand Wash

A thorough hand wash with marine-grade soap and soft applicators, followed by a rinse and dry. We always work top down so dirt and salt never re-deposit on freshly cleaned surfaces.

3. Compound & Polish

Multi-stage cutting and polishing to lift oxidation and restore depth to the gelcoat. Heavily weathered finishes get an additional pass to bring back the shine before wax is applied.

4. Premium Wax & Protection

We finish with premium Shine Supply marine products, applied by professional buffer for an even, long-lasting coat. Protection lasts roughly 12 months, with an optional ceramic coating upgrade for boats that need it.

5. Detail Finish

Stainless polished, glass cleaned, non-skid treated, and a final hand dry-down. These are the details that separate a basic wash from a true detail. Completion photos sent when we're done.

What Our Clients Say

42 five-star reviews across every market we serve

I can't believe the quality of the cleaning that took place on my Axopar. After it was cleaned, washed, and waxed it looked like a new boat. They made every effort to show me they are proud of the work they do. 100% the money I spent was worth every penny. Thank you Harbor Side.

Harbor Side Boat Detail did a 10/10 job. The interior of my boat is looking brand new. Conveniently met at my slip with all the supplies he needed, spent the whole day getting every spot, and did it at an affordable price. Super hands off and easy experience. Didn't get the wax & polish for the hull this time but I will be trying it out next.
Matthew Melendres · Google Review
I've had my boat washed by at least three other services, and these guys are easily the best out there. Prompt, professional, quality work. They even organized my lines, sheets, and halyards!

How Often

Recommended Frequency

San Diego and Orange County boats run year-round. There's no seasonal haul-out to give your gelcoat a break. Salt water, salt spray, and constant sun work on every surface twelve months a year, so the right cadence keeps small problems from becoming expensive ones.

A fresh coat of wax every 6 months. Re-waxing twice a year seals and protects the gelcoat against salt and sun. The single most important thing you can do to keep your finish from chalking, fading, and oxidizing, and to protect resale value.

Monthly maintenance washes in between. Regular salt-spray rinses and washdowns stop salt and grime from etching into the finish between waxes. Skipping even one season often doubles the time and cost of restoration later.

Compound & polish only when it's needed. Cutting compound corrects oxidation and haze on a weathered hull. It isn't something a well-maintained boat needs on a schedule. If your gelcoat is already chalky or faded, a one-time compound and polish brings it back before you start the wax routine.

Charter operators, rental fleets, and heavily-used vessels typically run shorter intervals. We'll recommend a schedule after your first detail based on your boat's actual condition, not a generic calendar.

Why Detailing Matters

Professional boat detailing protects your investment. The moment your vessel hits the water, salt residue, UV exposure, oxidation, and marine debris start working on the gelcoat. Without regular detailing, surfaces dull, metals corrode, and the cost of restoration climbs every season. HarborSide's marine-grade process locks in a deep finish so you spend more time on the water and less time on upkeep.

Here in San Diego and Orange County, boats live in the water year-round. There's no off-season haul-out to hide behind. Constant salt water, salt spray, and intense Southern California sun work on the gelcoat every single day, so consistent detailing isn't a luxury, it's what keeps your finish from chalking, fading, and oxidizing. Whether your boat is a center-console day-cruiser or a 50-foot sportfish, the goal is the same: a deeper, longer-lasting shine that genuinely protects.

Every detail uses premium Shine Supply marine products, trusted for finish quality and durability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at contact@harborsideyacht.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

How often should I have my boat detailed?

It depends on your boat's use and condition. San Diego and Orange County boats are used year-round in salt water and strong sun, so plan on a fresh coat of wax every six months with monthly maintenance washes in between. A full compound and polish is only needed when the gelcoat has actually oxidized. Not on a fixed schedule.

How long does marine wax last?

Premium marine-grade wax applied with a professional buffer lasts approximately 12 months. An optional ceramic coating upgrade is available for extended protection of 12-24 months.

What's included in a full HarborSide boat detail?

A full detail includes hand-wash exterior (hull, topsides, deck), non-skid deck treatment, compound and machine polish, oxidation removal, premium marine wax application, stainless and chrome polishing, window and glass cleaning, hand dry-down, and pre/post photo documentation.

Do you detail both power boats and sailboats?

Yes. HarborSide hand-details every vessel, from compact center-console day-cruisers to 50+ foot sportfish, sailboats, and yachts. Process and products are tailored to vessel size and storage environment.

Do you offer ceramic coating?

Yes. Ceramic coating is an optional upgrade for extended protection beyond standard wax, providing 12-24 months of durable surface protection.

What products do you use for boat detailing?

Every detail uses Shine Supply marine products, the line HarborSide trusts for finish quality and durability in San Diego and Orange County saltwater conditions.
